CSA - Community Supported Agriculture

A friend recently asked in another forum “I would love to hear all of your comments on gardening and the economy.”
Here is what I replied and I feel the message is worth repeating here: “I worry about those who spend precious money on seeds and plants but then don’t know how to care for them. Home gardening, especially vegetables, can be a great way to save money…
Maybe a better first time option for those looking to save and eat well this coming season would be investment in a community-supported-farm share - CSA, (for Community Supported Agriculture - Local Harvest). “
Many CSA and similar farms offer produce subscriptions, where buyers receive a weekly or monthly basket of produce, flowers, fruits, eggs, milk, meats, or any sort of different farm products. For those who say it is too expensive…perhaps initial share investment is cost prohibitive, but perhaps shares from your own local farm could be prorated over an entire growing season.
So, please think about CSA shares for this coming growing season, or at least buying produce and other farm products from local producers.
